The College for Kids program held by Business and Community Services at Kent State University at Tuscarawas was successful once again this summer, as nearly 200 young students participated in a diverse assortment of week-long courses. The program, held the third week of June each year, featured new and exciting classes, including Metal Casting for Kids, Hogwarts Americana, Hip Hop, Google Fun and Photoshop It, along with past favorites, such as Makerspace Magic, Safe Sitter®, Historic Schoenbrunn Village, Emergency Room, Science in Motion and Jr. Chef’s. A total of 15 different classes were offered during this 29th year of programming.
“We had local and not-so-local teachers who truly enjoyed this opportunity and had a great time teaching all of the creative minds at work,” said Cindi Supers, Kent State Tuscarawas coordinator of College for Kids. “Kids explored metal casting, science, cooking, dancing, being an artist and being a Hogwart! They also learned how to be a Buckeye Ninja Warrior, how to rescue people in the ER and about all the different things that can be done in the Kent State Tuscarawas Makerspace lab.”
Again this year, thanks to the generosity of the Kent State Tuscarawas University Foundation and generous sponsors, College for Kids scholarships were offered to kids who qualified. College level scholarships were also offered to all participants for future use toward credit programming. Each College for Kids student will receive a $100 scholarship to Kent State Tuscarawas, with a limit of $500 over five years. Use of the limited scholarships must be in degree status. The scholarships are not transferrable.
