Upward Bound Summer Program Success

This past summer, aligned with Kent State’s summer session one, Upward Bound welcomed 142 high school students to campus for a six-week, systemic enrichment experience. Highlights included our Kent State partnerships with the College of Aeronautics and Engineering; College of Architecture and Environmental Design; College of Business Administration; College of Communication and Information; College of Nursing; and the Research Center for Educational Technology offering an engaging academic curriculum. In addition to cultural and personal development opportunities, students participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURE) in which Kent State faculty and students collaborated to focus on research and scholarship, work-study experiences mentored by many Kent State faculty and staff in departments across campus, and course work through College Credit Plus.

Students will have the opportunity to visit Kent State’s campus on two separate occasions this fall to investigate careers, led by faculty and staff through our University partnerships, and explore the world of coding. Additionally, we are launching a new initiative that will support our male-identifying students as they prepare for college.

We are currently seeking prospects to assume the spots that our graduating seniors have left. If you are aware of high school students in the following school districts - Barberton, Buchtel CLC, Lorain, McKinley, Ravenna, Warren G. Harding, Windham - who may have an interest in joining Upward Bound, they can contact us at upwardbound@kent.edu. More information can be found on our website at https://www.kent.edu/upwardboundprogram.

Additionally, please save the date for our Senior Celebration on Thursday, April 30, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
