Welcome, Flashes!

To all of our new and returning students, welcome to Kent State University at Trumbull! Like you, we are anxious to get back to normal, return to a robust campus life, and resume many of the activities that enrich your college experience. We know that because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, this semester will be somewhat different than usual. However, you have chosen to make the most of this fall. In turn, we promise to help you along the way and support you as you move forward. Flashes always take care of Flashes!

Your safety and well-being and that of other students and employees are of primary importance. By now you should have read the Flashes Safe Seven principles that feature the wearing of facial coverings and practicing physical distancing while on an of Kent State’s eight campuses. In order to maintain a safe learning environment, we are asking you, as well as all of our faculty and staff, to follow these principles whenever you are on our campus.

As many of you are taking remote and online classes, I encourage all of you to take advantage of our virtual activities. This is a great opportunity to meet other students either on our campus app or in one of our student clubs or organizations. I encourage you to take the time to explore all that our campus has to offer and to make the most of your college experience.

We know that some of you may be anxious about online or remote learning. We have spent the summer making accommodations to help you throughout the semester. I urge you to take advantage of our Learning Center, which offers free tutoring and an online writing lab. Don’t hesitate to ask for help. We offer free counseling for students who need to talk through an issue. You may have chosen Kent State Trumbull because of its affordability or convenience. However, you’ll find that we are a family and our staff and faculty consider you part of the family and want to help you succeed-we take that job very seriously.

It may be an overused phrase, but we are all in this together. We come from a wide range of cultures, backgrounds, and ethnicities. Many of our students are working and/or supporting families. Some of our students are first-generation college students. Here, we will all move forward together. We are proud and grateful that you have all chosen Kent State Trumbull.

Again, welcome to “Your Kent State in the Valley!” Stay well and as always, go Flashes!

Sincerely,

Daniel E. Palmer, Ph.D.
