Aeronautics

The Aeronautics Program at Kent State University has a vision born of a fundamental mandate to serve as the leading academic program in aviation at the tertiary level in Ohio. As such, the Aeronautics Program strives to advance aviation by providing an outstanding education in aviation that produces a cadre of highly competent professionals to operate the National Airspace System in the 21st century and beyond.

Concentrations Offered:

  • Aeronatical Studies:  The objective of the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, Aeronautical Studies concentration is to prepare students for professional careers in aviation which require not only foundational knowledge of aviation but also specialized knowledge from associated disciplines.
  • Air Traffic Control:  The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, Air Traffic Control concentration is to prepare students for success at the FAA Academy and beyond by providing a broad knowledge of the aviation industry while honing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in air traffic control training.
  • Aviation Management:  The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, Aviation Management is to prepare students with the highest quality education for a career in aviation management and to provide the aviation industry with qualified candidates that possess skill sets comprised of solid management principles and technical skills consistent with those of successful aviation professionals.
  • Professional Pilot:  The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, Professional Pilot is to prepare students to be professional pilots and enable them to qualify for Federal Aviation Administration certificates and ratings required for giving flight and ground instruction and commercial and instrument operations in FAR part 121 air carrier operations or business general aviation.
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems:  The Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) concentration is for students who aspire to become professional Unmanned Aircraft Pilots.  This concentration is focused on the safe operations of unmanned aircraft systems, regulations, the technology of autonomous systems, and policy regarding the operations of unmanned aerial elements.

APPLIED Engineering AND Technology MANAGEMENT

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Engineering, Applied Engineering and Technology Management is focused on the application of basic engineering principles, technological skills and management practices using a systems approach to solve complex technological problems.   It also functions as a complete degree for students with engineering technology associate degrees. The majority of the coursework in the last two years focuses on the management of applied engineering.

Concentration Offered:

  • Foundry:  The Bachelor of Science in Applied Engineering, Foundry Concentration prepares students for employment in the metal casting industry. Graduates of the program will have completed coursework in Materials and Processes, Cast Metals, Metallurgy and Material Science, Solid Modeling and Solidification and applied their knowledge and skills in the capstone course, Foundry Tooling and Pattern Making.This program is Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF) certified.
