I have been teaching Healthcare of Children at Kent State for the past 13 years. I became certified in pediatric nursing as I believe certifications demonstrate competence and expertise the a nursing specialty. I have been teaching Healthcare of Children as a hybrid course for the past 4 years and find that students enjoy and learn better from the interactive, flipped classroom experience. I use nursing simulations with each class to give students the opportunity to practice skills and apply concepts that are discussed in the classroom. The clinical experiences at Akron Children's Hospital have been an invaluable way for students to bridge the gap between classroom learning and application in the clinical setting. I believe that it is vital that students have the ability to therapeutically communicate with children of different ages and their families.
