Hundreds Support Nursing Student Scholarship and Sim Lab During 2019 Giving Tuesday

From Touch Point Online Magazine, Winter 2019 – Vol. III, Issue 4

The month of November served as Giving Tuesday month here in the College of Nursing culminating with Giving Tuesday on Tuesday, December 3rd. Giving Tuesday began in 2012 to focus on philanthropy and giving back in a time of the year dominated by consumerism. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this day of giving soon took off and has since become a national and global phenomenon. For the past several years, Kent State has participated in this phenomenon with each year surpassing the last.

The College of Nursing’s Giving Tuesday efforts focused on the College of Nursing Scholarship Fund and the Simulation Lab Fund. Support for our College of Nursing Scholarship Fund helps to provide additional scholarships to students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to finish their schooling and realize their goal of becoming a registered nurse. Support for the Simulation Lab Fund allows our professors to purchase state of the art simulation equipment that brings realistic scenarios to the classroom. When you support Kent State University College of Nursing, you are supporting an exceptional group of students who are eager to help and heal. The College of Nursing community has responded passionately in support for these two funds, and while we’re still counting total gifts, we are on pace to surpass the amount raised in 2018.

As Giving Tuesday passes and the holiday season continues, if you have not made a gift, please think about the College of Nursing and our students. The end of the year is a great time to consider making a gift to support an area within the college that you are passionate about. Whether it be supporting a scholarship, a study-abroad experience, a research project or another area, your support means the world to us. Your gift is 100% tax-deductible and serves as a powerful endorsement. With Kent State University College of Nursing alums making up over 40% of the nurses in Northeast Ohio, your gift helps to ensure the next generation of nurses in Ohio are prepared to enter the workforce.
