May 4 Visitors Center Event - March 30 @ 7:00pm in the Kiva

Please join the May 4 Visitors Center on March 30, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Kiva for the first event in our commemoration series.

What’s Going On: Marvin Gaye, Vietnam, and the Rise of Political Soul

Featuring Dr. Lauren Onkey, Vice President of Education and Public Programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

This multimedia presentation will explore Marvin Gaye’s landmark 1971 album What’s Going On as a response to the Vietnam War and the declining conditions in U.S. cities. Gaye’s album pushed Motown Records to release more socially conscious music and inspired other soul artists to write about the impact of the war and its impact at home.
