Porthouse High School Academy Shadow Program
Experience Porthouse Theatre Behind-the-Scenes
Porthouse Theatre, Kent State University’s summer professional theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, is providing High School students with a unique and exciting opportunity to shadow members of Porthouse’s professional company during our 51st Season in the summer of 2019.
The Porthouse High School Academy Shadow Program is an exclusive opportunity that allows students to participate in live theatre as it happens and provides the in-depth learning that comes from a student/mentor educational model. During their academy experience, students will choose a week between May 28 and July 28 to shadow a professional in one of the following areas:
- Music Direction
Due to the program's structure, times and dates will be flexible and each student will spend one week in the area of their choice.
Students will choose a week between May 28 and July 28. The specific week will be coordinated according to the student and designer’s schedule and there will never be more than 2 students shadowing a professional during the same week. This exclusive opportunity will allow students to participate in live theatre as it happens and will provide the in-depth learning that comes from a student/mentor educational model.
Due to generous grants from several of our donors, the Porthouse High School Academy Shadow Program is fully funded.
Students will be asked to complete a scholarship application and, if the student is chosen from among the applicants, they will attend the Academy free of charge.
Transportation and meals during the week of the Academy will not be provided.
The Academy will take place at the Kent State University School of Theatre and Dance which is located on Kent State University's Kent Campus.
