The 1 University Commission results from noble intentions and practical considerations. We long have known that Kent State University is greater than the sum of its parts. We know also that we must be something more than a collection of semi-autonomous campuses. In her Listening Tour President Warren is hearing the uplifting stories of Kent State University, and she understands that we can make Kent State stronger by emphasizing that as an institution we value each campus for its unique contribution to our mission and vision.
Last July, I eagerly joined this vibrant community and felt it was important to listen and learn from so many who care deeply about Kent State. During more than 50 scheduled events in the Presidential Listening Tour, more than 5,000 participants generously shared their thoughts, ideas, concerns and suggestions about the university.
The President's Faculty Excellence Award was created in 2015 to recognize exceptional performance by a faculty member, which leads to the achievement of national or international recognition. Under the collective bargaining agreement, the university will award a pool of $400,000 in the form of special salary adjustments over a three-year period.
The President's Excellence Award was created as a recognition program to reward staff members who have demonstrated exceptional performance in advancing the strategic goals of the university during the previous fiscal year.
Kent State University wishes to increase its level of research, scholarly and creative activities as an important element of its future as a research university. To assist in this endeavor, the university invited Dr. Brad Fenwick, Senior Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances for Elsevier, to conduct an external assessment of current conditions and levels of research activity at Kent State.
