A new department chair, faculty member, dean and director of advancement have joined the College of Public Health

A new department chair, faculty member, dean and director of advancement have joined the College of Public Health.  In addition, the college has combined its biostatistics, environmental health sciences and epidemiology faculty into one department, now chaired by Mark A. James, Ph.D. We bid a fond farewell and best wishes to professor and Social & Behavioral Sciences Interim Chair R. Scott Olds, Ph.D.
Jeffrey S. Hallam, Ph.D., has been named chair of the Social & Behavioral Sciences department.  Hallam comes to Kent State from the University of Mississippi, where he was a professor of health promotion in the Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management Department.  He was founding director of the Center for Health Behavior Research at Ole Miss. Hallam received his undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University in physical education and health science. His primary research focus is physical activity behavior.
Tara Smith, Ph.D., joins the faculty as associate professor in the Department of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences & Epidemiology.  Smith most recently was associate professor of epidemiology in the College of Public Health at The University of Iowa.  Her research interests include infectious diseases, bacterial ecology and antibiotic resistance. Her recent work has focused on Staphylococcus aureusas a zoonotic infection.
John R. Graham, Ph.D., has been appointed associate dean.  Graham served as interim chair of Epidemiology & Biostatistics for the past year.  He is an emeritus professor of clinical psychology and a 2000 Kent State Distinguished Scholar.  Thomas W. Brewer, Ph.D., who was associate dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, is returning to his role as associate professor, Social & Behavioral Sciences.
Margot McGimpsey is the new director of advancement for the college.  McGimpsey concentrates upon building relationships with alumni, supporters and friends of the college to cultivate their interest in and understanding of its mission and achievements.  She has an extensive background in strategic planning, project management, process improvement and technology integration in the health care industry.
