INTRO TO CLIMBING CLINIC

Attend one clinic.  Clinics are every Monday and Tuesday, 5:30 – 8 p.m. from Aug. 26 – Dec. 3

This two-and-a-half hour program covers the basics of indoor climbing including equipment, bouldering, top rope climbing and belaying with an ATC and GriGri device. This program sets up an individual with no prior experience to take our belay test which is required when purchasing a wall membership.

KAYAK ROLLING CLINIC

Attend one clinic.  Clinics are every Thursday, 7 – 9 p.m. from Aug. 29 – Dec. 5 (no clinic on Thursday, 11/28)

New kayakers can come learn to roll a kayak so they are prepared when paddling real rivers. This clinic provides the opportunity to learn to roll, practice rolling and other skills in our natatorium. Participants may bring their own boats via the loading dock stairs and back entrance as long as the boats are FULLY CLEANED before entering the pool. If you don't own a boat, one can be provided for you to use. Please contact Chris Lukas at clukas@kent.edu to schedule a day and time and to complete registration.

CAMPFIRE COOKING CLINIC

Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 5 - 7 p.m.

Learn how to cook a meal over a campfire and then sit with new friends and enjoy the meal together!

  • Difficulty: No experience necessary.
  • Fee: Member $10, Non-member $10

OVERNIGHT EVEREST CHALLENGE

Friday, Oct. 4 starting at 8 p.m.

Choose your team and try to climb the height of Mt. Everest in one evening!  Food and prizes provided.

LEAVE NO TRACE WORKSHOP

Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 5 - 6 p.m.  FREE

Come learn from National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Master Instructor Madelyn Tormasi about the seven principles of Leave No Trace. Leave No Trace is a non-profit organization that suggests principles and practices of how to minimize impacts on the outdoors. The curriculum will be interactive and cover how to do the following:

  1. Plan Ahead & Prepare
  2. Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces
  3. Dispose of Waste Properly
  4. Leave What You Find
  5. Minimize Campfire Impacts
  6. Respect Wildlife
  7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Register online to guarantee your spot. Walk ups are welcome the night of the event, but space is limited and not guaranteed. Email clukas@kent.edu for more information.

ROUTE SETTING EVENT

Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12 - 3 p.m.

Like puzzles? Enjoy sorting things? Are you a planner? This event is for you! Come let your creativity shine as you create paths for others to follow while climbing on our rock wall. You will create and set a bouldering problem using our rock wall holds. Then, you and others will have fun and get some exercise trying to climb all the new routes. The community will vote on their favorites routes.

INDOOR ARCHERY CLINIC

Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 6 - 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Come learn to shoot archery with our Adventure Center staff.  We will teach you the basics and play fun archery games.
