Advanced Climbing Clinic

This clinic teaches and provides in-depth information about a variety of topics ranging from climbing technique, to equipment, to self rescue. The course can be designed based on the needs and interests of at least a group of three. Please contact the Climbing Wall Staff to schedule a day and time and to complete registration.

Introduction to Climbing Clinic

This two-and-a-half hour program covers the basics of indoor climbing including equipment, bouldering, top rope climbing and belaying with an ATC and GriGri device. This program sets up an individual with no prior experience to take our belay test which is required when purchasing a wall membership.

INTRODUCTION TO Backcountry and Camping Clinic

At this two-hour, FREE clinic we will have discussions and demonstrations on topics ranging from backcountry camping, travel, bear bagging, the campsite triangle, water safety and more.

INTRODUCTION TO Rappelling Clinic

This course teaches how to descend the wall via rappelling from the top. Each course offering is by appointment only.

INTRODUCTION TO Sport Climbing CLINIC

This is a three hour course that introduces the skills required to sport climb including: equipment, clipping, leading and belaying. Prerequisite: Must be a 5.10 climber. This registration is by appointment only.

Kayak Roll Clinic

New kayakers can come learn to roll a kayak so they are prepared when paddling real rivers. This clinic provides the opportunity to learn to roll, practice rolling and other skills in our natatorium. Participants may bring their own boats via the loading dock stairs and back entrance as long as the boats are FULLY CLEANED before entering the pool. If you don't own a boat, one can be provided for you to use.

Family Climbing CLINIC

This clinic provides the opportunity to learn the ropes and complete an intro to climbing program or have personalized staff belaying for up to five family members. Each course offering is by appointment only. Please contact the Climbing Wall Staff to schedule a day and time and to complete registration. Youth must be 13 years or older to learn to belay and a minimum of 4 years old to try climbing. Everyone under age 18 must wear a helmet and be accompanied by an adult.

Learn to Play Disc Golf Clinic (Faculty/Staff)

This clinic will provide information and skills on how to play disc golf on Kent State University's 18-hole Disc Golf course at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The rules of disc golf will be discussed and participants will go through an orientation of the course before practicing. Discs will be available for free rental and approximately three holes will be played to work on long distance, mid-range and putting shots.

benefit Bouldering Competition

Participants can test their bouldering skills in our fall competition designed for all climbing abilities. All competitors climb at the same time and choose how many problems they will attempt. Points are awarded only for completing the entire problem as marked without any aid. Entry fee is to bring 5 - 10 canned food items and the canned food will be donated to the KSU pantry.
