Adventure Trips

We offer unique adventure trips each semester in Ohio and around the country. All trips are designed to be beginner friendly with a focus on learning new outdoor skills. Trips can range from a few hours to multiple days/nights. Types of trips we have offered in the past include: hiking, skiing/snowboarding, kayaking, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, rafting, rappelling, camping, and more.

Fall Hiking Program

Do you love hiking or have you always wanted to do more of it? If you answered yes to either of those questions, we have the program for you... Throughout the fall semester, the Adventure Center is encouraging YOU to get outdoors by joining us on our hiking, backpacking, and camping trips. By signing up for this fall hiking program, you will receive a hiking stick with a Kent State Adventure Center medallion. You will also receive a unique medallion for each Adventure Center hiking trip you take part in.  As you participate in our trips, keep count of the total number of miles you’ve hiked. When you reach 50 miles and/or 100 miles, you receive another medallion for free!  To register, purchase the hiking stick at the Climbing Wall for $20.  You will recieve your first medallion as well as a code for $5 off of each trip price when you register to get your hiking stick, so it will pay for itself after four trips! Contact Angela at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED.

Wingfoot Lake Paddling Trip

Enjoy a 1.5 hour peaceful and serene stand up paddleboarding trip on Wingfoot Lake, located right down the road from Kent. Enjoy time out on the water and relax in nature. Contact Angela at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED.

Cuyahoga River Kayak Trip

This trip will be held locally on the Cuyahoga River.  We will meet at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (or you can meet us at Kramer Fields-just let us know ahead of time!). From there, we will paddle to Brust Park in Munroe Falls.  We will then take the shuttle back to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.   A staff member will be with you on the water for the entire trip. The trip is 4.0 miles long, is beginner friendly and no prior experience is needed. The fee includes transportation, all equipment and instruction. Physical distancing and other safety measures will be implemented during the pandemic.  Contact Angela at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED. There is a three participant minimum to run this program.

Beaver Run Hiking Trip

Participants will have the opportunity to hike a 3.8 beginner hiking trail in Eagle Creek Nature Preserve. This hiking trip is a part of our hiking program. Beaver Run Trail is a 3.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Garrettsville, Ohio that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. This program is a part of the fall hiking program where you will receive a hiking stick medallion if you registered for the hiking stick program.  To register, purchase the hiking stick at the Climbing Wall.  You will recieve your first medallion as well as a code for $5 all hiking trips through the Adventure Center.  No prior experience is needed. Full Moon Float Trip

Here’s your chance to enjoy a beautiful sunset, relax in nature, and let your worries drift into the night as we paddle into the sunset on a peaceful and serene lake right down the road from Kent. Transportation is provided.  You will meet us at the SRWC.  Contact Angela at actrips@kent.eduwith any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED.

Hocking Hills Camping Trip

Want to explore Hocking Hills State Park in beautiful southern Ohio? Join us in some hiking, exploring waterfalls, and camping while it’s still warm out! Hocking Hills provides a variety of recreational opportunities in a splendid natural setting. Towering cliffs, waterfalls and deep hemlock-shaded gorges lure the hiker and naturalist and serve as a backdrop to popular facilities and accommodation.  This program is a part of the fall hiking program where you will receive a hiking stick medallion if you registered for the hiking stick program.  To register, purchase the hiking stick at the Climbing Wall.  You will receive your first medallion as well as a code for $5 all hiking trips through the Adventure Center. Contact Angela at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED.

Whipps Ledges Climbing Trip

Enjoy a day of outdoor climbing at Whipps Ledges. Hinckley Reservation is one of the few places in northeast Ohio with exposed sandstone ledges of Sharon Conglomerate. The geology not only provides unique recreational rock climbing opportunities, but also unique habitats. This trip is great for all experience levels from beginner to experienced. Parents and Families Week Hiking Clinic & Trip

Does your family want to go on an adventure this parent’s weekend? Come learn how to prepare for a hiking trip at Kent State’s Rec. Center and then enjoy a day of outdoor hiking at the Ledges Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This trip is great for all experience levels from beginner to experienced. West Virginia Backpacking Trip

Want to go backpacking outside of Ohio? Join us in West Virginia as we hike the gorgeous Spruce Knob to Seneca Creek Trail. The Spruce Knob/Seneca Creek route is a 16.5-mile, “lollipop” style hike located in West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest. On this trail you’ll get to experience a little bit of everything. There’s beautiful streams and waterfalls, high mountain meadows, incredible views from the Spruce Knob tower (the highest point in West Virginia at 4,863 feet), and an old plane wreck you can explore. We will spend 2 nights camping and hiking anywhere from 5-10 miles a day with 35 or more pounds on our backs. This program is a part of the fall hiking program where you will receive a hiking stick medallion if you registered for the hiking stick program.  To register, purchase the hiking stick at the Climbing Wall.  You will receive your first medallion as well as a code for $5 all hiking trips through the Adventure Center. The fee includes transportation, equipment, lunch and instruction. Contact Angela at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED.

Fall Break Outdoor Climbing Trip

Want to spend your fall break climbing outdoors? Join us in Kentucky as we climb, hike, and camp in Red River Gorge. Known for its world class climbing and hiking, the natural beauty of the Gorge is breathtaking. We will spend each night camping, and each day climbing and/or hiking.
