Student Memberships

All students taking five (5) or more credit hours (with the exception of Dissertation II students) on the Kent Campus for the semester will have automatic access to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.  These memberships are covered by a portion of each student's General Fee.

Individual (Fully assessed)

About Fully Assessed Memberships:

Individuals in this category include:

  • Students taking five (5) or more credit hours (with the exception of Dissertation II students) on the Kent Campus
    (Check your schedule: If your course says "KC" as the location, those credits count.)
  • Dissertation I students
  • Thesis II students taking seven (7) or more credit hours
  • Part-time faculty/staff taking five (5) or more credits (Full-time faculty/staff are provided a General Fee waiver, so they must pay for their membership).
  • Students at the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine

Please note: Students must maintain five (5) or more credit hours for summer memberships; however, those credit hours can be spread out across all three (3) summer sessions. Students not taking classes over the summer or not taking at least five (5) credit hours should see the next membership types for pricing details.


Individual (Partially assessed)

About Less Than Five Credit Memberships:
Students taking less than five (5) credit hours on the Kent Campus are not paying the full membership fee as part of their General Fee; therefore, access is not granted automatically, and a membership must be purchased to cover the remaining fee.

Individuals in this category include:

  • Kent Campus students taking less than five (5) credit hours
  • Dissertation II students
  • Thesis II students taking less than seven (7) credit hours
  • Part-time faculty/staff taking less than five (5) credits (Full-time faculty/staff are provided a General Fee waiver, so they must pay for their membership).

Individual (Non-assessed)

Non-Assessed $50 $105

About Non-Assessed Memberships:
Non-Assessed students are not paying the General Fee as part of their tuition; therefore, access is not granted automatically. These individuals must present an identification card to purchase a membership.

Individuals in this category include:

  • Students at any of Kent State’s Regional Campuses
  • Student Spouse or Household Member (must show proof of same residency)
    • Limit one membership per semester
  • Student dependents ages 5 - 26
    • Dependents 4 years old and younger are free
  • Students who were registered for and completed classes the previous semester or are registered for classes in the upcoming semester
    • This membership cannot be purchased two consecutive semesters.

Student Companion Memberships:

The student is the primary member of the account and falls under one of the individual categories. This membership type is designed for any two people residing in the same household. Proof of same residency is required unless the companion is a minor.

Student Family Memberships:

The student is the primary member of the account and falls under one of the individual categories. This membership type is designed for three or more members of the same immediate family residing in the same household where the student is the Head of Household.  Parents and siblings of current Kent State students fall under the Affiliate category.  Proof of same residency is required unless the member is a minor.
