Certificate of Advanced Study (LIS) Admissions
CAS Admission Qualifications
U.S. applicants must hold a master's degree in library and information science or information science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association, or a master's degree in a related field.
International applicants must hold a master's degree in library and information science or information science.
Applicants should apply to the program at least two years after receipt of the master's degree, provided they have held a professional position during that time. If an individual has less than two years of work experience, s/he may submit a petition to the school explaining why an exception should be made.
To be considered for full unconditional admission to the Certificate of Advanced Study in LIS, international students whose first language is not English must achieve a TOEFL score of 600 or higher on the paper-based test or 100 or higher on the Internet-based test; or a score of 7.5 on the IELTS; or a score of 88 or higher on the MELAB. Applicants may be considered for conditional admission with a minimum TOEFL score of 550 paper-based or 79 Internet-based test; or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5; or a minimum MELAB score of 80. Students who have already completed a degree in a post-secondary institution in the United States may be exempted from this requirement.

CAS Admission Procedures
Submit the following materials to the Division of Graduate Studies:
Application to the School of Library and Information Science Certificate of Advanced Study Program. By following this application link, you will be able to select the College of Communication and Information and the certificate program you wish to pursue.
- Three letters of recommendation, Biographical Sketch form and statement of career goals.
Official transcripts, including one for the M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree. Only one copy of each transcript is required.
