Master of Library & Information Science Program Requirements
Curriculum Revisions, 2016
- Students admitted for Fall 2016 and later: The requirements described below apply ONLY to students admitted for Fall 2016 and later.
- Students admitted for Summer 2016: Please consult with your advisor about which classes you should take first to prepare for the new core curriculum, which goes into effect in Fall 2016.
- Students enrolled before Fall 2016: Please continue to follow the requirements and curriculum in place when you began the program.
Course Requirements
Requires 37 credit hours, as follows:
- Core curriculum = 12 credit hours (5 courses)
- Elective courses = 21 credit hours (7 courses)
- Final requirements
- Master's Portfolio in Library and Information Science (1 credit)
- Culminating Experience (3 to 6 credits)
All courses are online.
(Note: The M.L.I.S + K-12 school library media licensure option requires 37 credit hours. This option is available only to students who have current standard teaching credentials in the state of Ohio.)
Additional Requirement
- Time to completion: Students are expected to complete all requirements and graduate within six (6) consecutive years from the date of initial enrollment. Students who exceed this time limit may petition for a one-year extension. (Many students complete the degree in 24 months.)
