Campus Kitchen fundraiserFor their semester-long service project, students in The College of Communication and Information decided to give a gift that would continue to give year-round.

Students Kelsey Wiltman, Alexandra Mutaali, Eva Thompson, Maria Orsini, Joe Ricci and Christine Morgan are enrolled in Terry Duvall’s Communication in Small Groups and Teams class in Taylor Hall. The semester-long project requires the students to volunteer and/or raise funds for an organization or cause of their choice.

“We decided to work with The Campus Kitchen at Kent State University because we knew that its work has direct, lasting impact on our community,” said Mutaali. “We have organized a fundraiser at Applebee’s in Stow along with other small initiatives to help raise money for the kitchen.”

The Campus Kitchen Project (CKP) at Kent State University is a student-run organization that provides hot meals to the homeless and hungry citizens of Portage County. CKP has partnered with Kent Social Services to prepare one meal each Wednesday to be served for Thursday dinner at the center.

To participate, stop in from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Applebee’s in Stow. Whether you stay for dinner or order carry-out, 15 percent of your bill will be donated to the kitchen, but be sure to present this flyer to your server.

“All money raised will benefit the kitchen,” said Orsini. “It’s crazy to think that people in our community worry about finding their next meal, but our group in collaboration with The Campus Kitchen is trying to change that.”
