Sociology Internship Testimonials | Kent State University

Meghan Johnson, B.A. Sociology 2017

“I learned so much from my internship at the nursing home. I gathered a lot of information from nurses, aids, and other faculty. I did activities with the residents, and tried to have them engage in any activity that I thought would help challenge them on a day-to-day basis. I highly recommend this opportunity to any student who is looking to get into geriatrics, business, nursing home management, or whatever it might be. My organization (Brookdale of Stow) is a great place to keep in mind. It defiantly takes a special person to work at Brookdale, and it isn't for everyone. I got to design my days in my own creative way, and I was able to work with residents at different stages of Alzheimer’s disease. I also want to thank the department for giving me the opportunity to intern at Brookdale! It has changed my life in a positive way, and it's helped me think about what I want to do in my future.”

A. Mico, B.A. Criminology & Justice Studies 2017

“I did my internship at Victim Assistance Program in Akron Ohio.  My duties included answering the hotline calls, giving support and referrals to the clients. Other duties included accompanying victims of trauma to court and helping them to complete protection orders.  This internship was very valuable to my academic career. This internship opened my awareness to into the victim’s perspectives of different types of trauma. I learned how important it is to help victims feel less traumatized. My internship helped me realize what I want to do in my future after graduation from Kent State. I also learned how important it is to maintain good relationships within professional networks, for example, the Victim Assistance Program maintained a good relationship with the Akron Police Department.  I would recommend this internship to a fellow student. Thanks to this hands-on internship, I had an amazing experience.”
