College Access Program

The College Access Program at Kent State University at Stark is a unique, new international student option that offers an English language and American university introduction experience to its participants over an 18-day period.

International students who are interested in learning about higher education opportunities and processes in the United States of America will find the program beneficial.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The College Access Program is all about helping international students learn ESL to prepare for the TOEFL and learn what it’s like to go to a university in the United States of America. 

ESL & TOEFL

Each weekday morning, you will have an intensive two-hour ESL course. These courses will prepare you for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), which you will take at the end of your visit. 

College Introduction

What does it cost to go to a university in the U.S.? How do I apply to a university? What kind of jobs can I get after graduating? Kent State Stark will answer these questions and more. Here are some topics that will be covered while you’re here:

  • Life at U.S. universities
  • Majors and degree programs
  • Career tracks
  • Types of higher education institutions
  • Graduate school and professional programs
  • Admission standards
  • Academic etiquette
  • Tuition, cost and scholarships
  • University vocabulary
  • Writing your entrance essay

WHERE YOU WILL GO

College Visits

Toward the end of each week and over the weekends, in addition to visiting local colleges and universities, you will visit several universities in the following major U.S. cities: Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio; and Columbus, Ohio.


STUDENT HOUSING

The Staybridge Suites, located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from campus, offers beautifully finished apartment style suites, equipped with full kitchens, living area, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Students will enjoy amenities such as:

  • Free wireless Internet
  • Free laundry service (on-site laundry facility also available)
  • 10 meals per week (breakfast daily, dinner 3 days per week)
  • Weekly housekeeping service
  • Maintenance and support services 24/7

COST

Room and board rates are based on a 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment double occupancy with a furnished kitchen and 10 meals per week provided by Staybridge Suites. The international student fee covers the cost of transportation, administrative fees, university visits and activities.
