Equity & Legal Symposium for Educators

2020 Equity & Legal Symposium for Educators

Dates TBD
Conference Center
Kent State University at Stark

Conversations about equity can be challenging and uncomfortable for educators. The real challenge that educators face is how to “intentionally” address issues of equity. Bringing about a systemic and sustainable positive change that impacts student performance and achievement; begins with an awareness of the "equity problem" facing your district school and or classroom (setting). The Equity Beyond Black & White session will aid educators in addressing equity at the district, school and classroom (setting) levels.

In the Legal Literacy session, participants will reflect on school law issues as they pertain to unique educational environments. Day 1 will cover the duties of confidentiality of students’ personally identifiable information and when the rights of students conflict with their parents’ rights to know. Day 2 will cover hot topics facing districts today in special education law, specifically focusing on removing special education students beyond the 10-day rule. Participants will leave with the knowledge to provide guidance to district educators.

Seats are limited, so register today!
