FYE Summer Service Projects

Join forces with your future classmates and contribute your time and talents to an area organization.

Working together to serve others is the best way to meet new people, develop leadership skills and jumpstart your involvement at Kent State Stark!

  • This activity is considered part of the FYE Success Series and will count towards out-of-class participation for UC 10097: DKS FYE.
  • If you attended the First Step program, you are encouraged to wear your Kent State t-shirt to your Summer Service Project.
  • Snacks will be provided but students are encouraged to pack a lunch.

Cut back trail, mulch, paint parking lot lines

DRESS CODE:

  • Due to safety reasons, you must wear closed-toe shoes. No sandals or flip-flops.
  • Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots.
  • Dress in casual clothing that can get dirty. Stark Parks recommends long pants and long-sleeved shirts.
  • Do not wear short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
  • No smoking.

Make PB&J sandwiches and sack meals for a food insecure population served by Springtime of Hope in Akron.

DRESS CODE:

  • Due to safety reasons, you must wear closed-toe shoes. No sandals or flip-flops.
  • Do not wear tank tops, short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
  • Dress in casual clothing that can get dirty.
  • You will be required to wear a hair net (provided to you).
  • No smoking.

PARKING:

  • Parking is available in the lot next to Beall Hall - View map
  • Access the kitchen through the back door by the loading dock - sign on door says Campus Kitchen

3. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE

Assist with the customer appreciation event.

  • Do not wear short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
  • No smoking.

ADDITIONAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

  1. Print and complete this WAIVER OF LIABILITY. If you are under the age of 18, complete this MINOR WAIVER OF LIABILITY. Bring the waiver with you on your day of service. 
  2. You'll be required to complete a Kent State waiver on site.

PARKING:

  • Park close to the Ministry Office door in the parking spaces facing Raff Rd. Enter in the ReStore door (not the ministry office door).

4. AKRON-CANTON REGIONAL FOODBANK

Sorting and inspecting food donations, labeling products for repackaging and packaging bulk items.

DRESS CODE:

  • Due to safety reasons, you must wear closed-toe shoes. No sandals or flip-flops.
  • No jewelry.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. We suggest sneakers or tennis shoes.
  • Dress in casual clothing that can get dirty.
  • Dress in layers for the weather. Warehouse is NOT air conditioned.
  • Do not wear short-shorts, low-cut tops, sagging pants or inappropriate t-shirts.
  • No smoking.

ADDITIONAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

  1. Register an ONLINE VOLUNTEER ACCOUNT with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank (one-time only).
  2. Log into the Volunteer Information Center to REGISTER YOUR DATE: After logging in, select the brown SIGN-UP button. When the calendar is in view, select Aug. 2 with a "HELP WANTED" call out. Look for Kent State University at Stark FYE and select SCHEDULE ME.

PARKING:

  • Volunteer parking is located in the front of the facility or in the Dart Avenue parking lot. Use the RED Visitor Entrance to enter the building.
  • Carpool when possible.
  • Get directions to the Foodbank.
