DEPARTMENT:  RECREATION & WELLNESS CENTER

JOB TITLE:  Program assistant

DUTIES:  Open or close facility, monitor front desk; monitor clients for safe & proper use

of equipment, program development, planning, evaluation & fitness assessments; assist in marketing programs and special events; maintenance of facility & equipment; generate reports; conduct tours & orientations; referee for intramural programs; light cleaning (empty trash, clean equipment, etc.).

PREFERRED SKILLS:  Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint; experience with recreation/fitness or intramural programs preferred but not required.  CPR cert. within 30 days of hire-training provided.

DEPARTMENT: RECREATION AND WELLNESS CENTER                      
JOB TITLE:  Student Non-Credit Instructor

DUTIES:  Teach non-credit group exercise classes. Classes last approximately 50 minutes and are offered 1-2 times per week on a semester by semester basis.  Provide a safe and effective routine for a class of approximately 15 people of varying degrees of health. Offer safe variations to increase and decrease intensity depending on the needs of the class. Develop routines in accordance with nationally recognized guidelines.
PREFERRED SKILLS:  Student must have a current CPR/AED certification. Must have, or be willing to obtain within 6 weeks of hire, a nationally recognized group exercise certification from and approved organization (200RYT- Yoga, AFAA, ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA etc.)
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK:  2-4
RATE OF PAY:  $12.00 per hour

JOB TITLE:  Campus Ambassador
DUTIES: 
Will be performing some of the following duties: giving campus tours, assist with planning on-campus events, attend on-campus events and monthly training meetings. 
PREFERRED SKILLS:  2.5 GPA or better, enthusiastic and engaging, reliable, detail oriented, creative, possess strong leadership & communication skills, basic computer skills

JOB TITLE: Tutor for Chemistry 
DUTIES: Assisting students in chemistry courses with clarification of course concepts and study guidance by appointment at the tutor’s convenience
PREFERRED SKILLS: Demonstrated mastery of content of multiple chemistry courses, strong interpersonal communication skills, dependability, a desire to help others

DEPARTMENT: ACADEMIC SUCCESS CENTER
JOB TITLE: American Sign Language Peer Tutor

DUTIES: Assist students in Elementary ASL I and II and Intermediate ASL I and II in the ASL lab with practicing sign language and completing assignments
PREFERRED SKILLS: Proficiency in American Sign Language; peer tutors must have completed Intermediate ASL II.  Dependability, patience, and desire to help others are qualities the ideal candidate will possess.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK:  Varies; flexible scheduling.

DEPARTMENT: STUDENT SERVICES-FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE
JOB TITLE: Welcome Team Assistant

DUTIES:  Meet with the Assistant Director of First Year Experience on a monthly basis to discuss your first year experiences and provide insight on issues facing the freshman class. Provide suggestions to the Student Services staff regarding first year programming and communication methods. Provide feedback on marketing campaigns designed to reach prospective students. Act as ambassadors to the Student Services office by communicating information about deadlines, programs and services to their peers. Monthly meetings (planned according to student availability). Work events like Smart Start Saturday (New Student Orientation). Help out with the First Step program, Summer Service Projects, the First Year Success Series, staff a table during the first week of class, etc. Trained as a back-up on campus tours

DEPARTMENT: GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
JOB TITLE:  Student Assistant
DUTIES: Work with grounds crew (primarily in the outdoors; varied temperatures and weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, odors, loud equipment noise, etc); lawn care, flowers, shrubs, operate motor vehicles, tools, keep grounds clean, snow and ice removal. Requires considerable physical exertion to include frequent lifting of up to 100 pounds including snow shoveling and extended periods of kneeling, stooping, standing, and walking.
PREFERRED SKILLS: Previous grounds maintenance and/or landscaping experience.  Practical knowledge in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment and tools (i.e., rakes, shovels, pruning tools, gasoline powered Gator ATV’s, backpack blowers, lawn mowers, weed eaters, power edger’s, etc.). Valid Ohio driver’s license with safe driving record.

DEPARTMENT: STUDENT INVOLVEMENT
JOB TITLE: Undergraduate Student Government Board Member

DUTIES: Assist with allocating funds, planning and executing events including: set-up, tear-down, and staffing events; data entry and database management; responsible for attending weekly meetings, post information around campus; summarize program evaluations; serve as a resource to student organizations; assist in marketing programs and student organization events; collaborate with other organizations and departments on campus; meet with student organizations and students interested in Student Involvement; assist Student Involvement with events and projects; other duties as assigned.  

PREFERRED SKILLS:  Basic computer skills; knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; organized; creative; task-oriented; ability to assist and direct students/visitors to appropriate departments; ability to work independently; ability to multi task several duties simultaneously; Will require working occasional outdoor events; may be asked to lift up to 25 lbs.; reliable; experience with programming/marketing preferred, but not required.

DEPARTMENT: STUDENT INVOLVEMENT
JOB TITLE: Flash the Mascot 

DUTIES: Make appearances at Kent State University at Stark functions and events; pose in photos with students, faculty, staff and members of the University and community. Will have to work in both indoor and outdoor locations in extreme weather (heat, rain, snow, etc...) Represent Kent State University at all times and conduct one’s self in a professional manner at all times. Absolutely no talking is permitted while wearing the costume and the mascot head must not be taken off in public. 
PREFERRED SKILLS:  Able to lift up to 25 pounds, perform in various weather conditions including extreme heat, flexible work schedule  
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 0-10 (need will vary based on event. Average number of hours per semester is 15-20)

JOB TITLE:  Personal Trainer

DUTIES: Administer fitness testing following ACSM guidelines. Design and teach clients how to correctly execute individual fitness programs that reinforce industry guidelines for healthy activity and promote and enhance permanent, positive lifestyle choices.
PREFERRED SKILLS:  Current CPR/ AED certification or ability to obtain required. We offer certification when needed. Current nationally recognized personal training certification required. Examples: ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ACE
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: Dependent on need
RATE OF PAY: $12.00 per hour

Serve clients food & beverages; restocking of food and supply items; set-up & break-down for events; maintain appearance of dining supplies; must be customer service oriented.

DEPARTMENT:  NETWORK SERVICES
JOB TITLE:  Computer Lab Assistant
REQUIREMENTS:  
Candidate should possess strong customer service skills. Must be organized, follow written directions and learn new tasks quickly. Also must possess the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
DUTIES:  The Computer Lab Assistant will have the overall responsibility of providing assistance to students, staff, and faculty with their technology needs. The Computer Lab Assistant will aide in overseeing the proper use and maintenance of campus computer labs, classroom computers, and campus printers.
SKILLS: Ability to maintain a professional demeanor while collecting information from & providing instruction to users of the Helpdesk. A basic knowledge of Windows, Office, Flashline, GMail, and Blackboard Learn is a plus.

DEPARTMENT: NETWORK SERVICES
JOB TITLE: 
Helpdesk Tier 1 Support Associate
DUTIES: This student employee will work closely with the Helpdesk manager to take the first calls from the Helpdesk line and begin troubleshooting based on documentation provided. They will input all the pertinent information into the Network Services ticket system and disperse the information to the rest of the department as needed. They will also help manage the Helpdesk database, running reports, cleaning data, review tickets for missing information and add notes as needed. They will help manage the documentation for the helpdesk and test any directions on various issues. They will be the backup support for lab and campus issues. Still maintaining regular lab assistant training and duties but will only be called in to those tasks when others are not available.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Customer service phone skills; basic use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access; organizational skills; create Helpdesk documentation
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 10 -15 hours per week; more on long breaks
RATE OF PAY: $8.55 per hour
