Support Kent State University at Stark

Headshot of Dean and Chief Administrative Officer of Kent State Stark, Denise A. Seachrist, Ph.D.

Dear Alumni and Friends of Kent State University at Stark,

We know that an education opens doors in life. It is the key to achieving dreams, developing purpose and writing everyday success stories.

At Stark County’s only public university, your generosity truly provides students with the most precious gift: the gift of opportunity.

Because of you, our students take the first step on their journey to a bright future. Gifts that support important programs and initiatives— from scholarships and research to global study abroad and local veterans services — have a lasting impact on students’ experiences and their achievements beyond graduation.

Our Rising Scholars students will be the first in their families to earn a college degree, and with your generous support, they will look forward to not only a job, but a career filled with purpose. They will become nurses and marketing professionals, music producers and difference makers.

When you believe enough to give, you foster opportunity for generations to come because the gift of education is not an isolated act, it is ceaseless. It changes lives. It changes families. It changes communities – for the better.

Your generous gift allows our students to chase their futures, to claim it and discover brilliantly by providing the educational training and critical thinking skills that prepare them for whatever the future may hold.

I am filled with deep gratitude for your support as we move forward, writing the next chapter of our story together.

All my best,

Denise A. Seachrist, Ph.D.
Dean and Chief Administrative Officer

In order to prepare our students for a 21st-century workplace with the knowledge, skills and prowess they will require to become leaders and professionals in their chosen field, Kent State University at Stark is focusing on these key priorities:

Kent State Stark Rising Scholars
Just imagine: You are a middle school student, and you’re told a college education is not achievable for you. Thankfully, Rising Scholars is here to rewrite that narrative. This unique partnership between Kent State University at Stark and school districts in Stark County empowers students who may lack the necessary resources to plan and prepare for success after high school. Upon completion of the program, Rising Scholars students are eligible for a tuition-free education at Kent State Stark and will become mentors to work with younger students in the program. Their dream of attending college is no longer an impossibility; it is a reality.

For anyone wishing to make a true difference, Rising Scholars is it.

Kent State Stark Scholarships
Many of our students have the talent and drive to succeed, but they lack the financial means to do so. Your gift to a scholarship changes a student’s life today and for generations to come. Our scholarships reach the students who need it the most. Our scholarships show our students that we believe in them. Ultimately, our scholarships fund the future of Stark County.

With the help of our alumni and friends, we can ensure that opportunities remain accessible to students whose ability and ambition are limitless.

Kent State Stark Study Abroad/Study Away
Studying abroad is a life-changing experience. Data suggests that students who have studied abroad have higher graduation rates, GPAs and job acquisition. Students will experience the world from a different perspective and develop skills that benefit them personally and professionally for the rest of their lives. Your gift helps students practice French in Geneva, learn design principles in Ghana, build relationships with host families in Japan, study business practices in Prague and gain valuable work experience through an internship in Brazil.

Global experiences help our students engage in other cultures in a way that cannot be taught in a classroom.

Kent State Stark William G. Bittle Veterans Commons and Support

Our military service students have overcome obstacles and shown courage in the face of danger. Today, they are often juggling the demands of family, work and school, like other nontraditional students. Adapting from the military to the new environment of a college campus may be uncomfortable and unfamiliar. Our campus is dedicated to providing a comprehensive array of services to veterans to serve them well. Your financial support allows the William G. Bittle Veterans Commons to assist our veterans in ways that matter the most to them.

Our Kent State Stark veterans fought for us. Your gift shows you are fighting for them.

Your choices of where and how to support Kent State students, our vision and our mission are endless, and include a variety of scholarships and programs. These university-wide key initiatives impact a large population of our students and your gift will make an immediate and lasting impact.

Emergency Grant Fund supports students during pandemic - With the multitude of challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of students and their families are encountering unexpected financial challenges associated with travel, food, housing, technology needs and, in some cases, lost wages by both the student and parents. “Our students need us now more than ever,” said Kent State President Todd Diacon. “I am confident our Golden Flash family will answer that call, because despite the uncertainty we are all facing at this time, there is one thing that remains constant: Flashes Take Care of Flashes.”

Scholarships put students first - At Kent State, we have a laser focus on ensuring that students have the education, experiences and support they need to graduate and to live successful, meaningful lives. Our deep and unwavering commitment to putting Students First has guided the development of strategies and a culture that welcomes all students with open arms and pushes them to become more than they ever imagined. Raising funds to align with scholarship needs is our first priority at Kent State, and ensures we support our students from the day they receive their letter of acceptance, to the day they receive their degree.

Study abroad experiences - Every student—regardless of their age, means or area of interest—should have the opportunity to receive a global education. That’s why we offer education abroad scholarships to students of all majors. Your gift can help open up a world that students didn’t even know existed. Study abroad opportunities are some of the most direct and effective ways to transform a student’s life for the better, empowering students to engage in once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for study, research and exploration. We encourage students of all majors to expand their worldview through studying abroad in one of our programs in more than 60 countries, and we see tremendous interest in participating in these experiences. Many students just can't afford to do so without financial support.

College of Public Health develops health care leaders, innovations - Through teaching, research and service, the College of Public Health is living out its mission to develop public health leaders and promote public health innovations in collaboration with community partners both locally and globally. Together, our faculty, staff and students are making tremendous impacts on the health of those on our campuses, regionally, across the country and around the world. Our graduates are needed now more than ever to address global health concerns.
