As the Director for the Student Multicultural Center (SMC) at Kent State University, my primary responsibility is to oversee the overall needs of the SMC. Our focus in our center is Cultural Affirmation and Sense of Belonging for underrepresented students including African American, Latinx, Native American and Multiracial students.
Prior to working in Diversity Work, I have had the pleasure of working in positions in Intercollegiate Athletics, Residence Services, Student Organizations and Fraternity & Sorority Life. Throughout my career, my focus has been on leadership, academics, career development, and empowerment of the individual student. I attended undergrad at Miami University where I became a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies. I earned my Master’s Degree from the University of Louisville in College Student Personnel, and save the best for last and earned my Ph.D. from Kent State University in Higher Education Administration & Student Personnel.
Favorite place on the Kent campus:
My most favorite place is of course the Student Multicultural Center! The energy our students bring in the lounge and the great moments we all have shared are indescribable. My second favorite is the new Starbucks in the library!
Best advice for students:
The best advice I can give both our incoming freshmen and those students preparing to graduate is to build a family while you are here at Kent State. The family that is here will last beyond your years as an undergraduate student.
