When the project is completed, will pedestrians be able to cross Summit Street at the roundabouts? | Kent State University

When the project is completed, will pedestrians be able to cross Summit Street at the roundabouts?

Yes, pedestrians will be able to safely cross the street at both roundabouts. Because these portions of the project have a grass median, pedestrians will only be crossing one lane of traffic at a time.  The larger roundabout at West Campus Center Drive and Summit Street, near the entrance to the Kent Student Center parking lot, will also have a HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Cross Walk) beacon signal. When activated by the pedestrian, the signal will stop traffic in a single leg of the roundabout while the pedestrian crosses the street. Statistically, roundabouts have a better safety record for pedestrians than signalized intersections.
