The School of Theatre and Dance’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Musical Theatre program at Kent State University has been selected by On Stage Blog as one of the Top 30 College Musical Theatre programs for the 2019-2020 academic year. In its rankings, On Stage highlights Kent State’s multi-faceted program that focuses on developing students’ skills in music, theatre and dance. The publication praises the school’s 2019-2020 guest artists Mark Valdez and Martín Céspedes and the school’s access to more than 25 theatre, music and dance companies and performing arts organizations in the region.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre program prepares students for life as working artists in the musical theatre field with fully developed skills in music, dance and acting. Practical training and creative experiences are coupled with an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum and a foundation in theatre history and theory. In their senior year, students in the Musical Theatre program may audition to participate in the Musical Theatre Showcase in New York City. The showcase experience enables students to perform for prospective casting directors, managers and agents. An audition is required for admission into the Musical Theatre program.
Alumni of the BFA Musical Theatre program currently work nationally and internationally on Broadway and national tours, in film and television, in nonprofits or corporations, and at educational institutions.
