Kent Dance Ensemble Welcomes Guest Artist Jamal White

The Kent Dance Ensemble, under the artistic direction of Gregory King, will welcome its first guest artist of the 2017-2018 season, Jamal White, September 9-12. 

While in residence at the School of Theatre and Dance, White will set a piece on the Kent Dance Ensemble.

About Jamal White:

Jamal White (Birmingham, AL) was raised in Atlanta, GA and began his training at Dance Makers of Atlanta under the direction of Denise and Lynise Heard. He studied as a scholarship student at Virginia School of the Arts and trained in intensive programs at Kirov Academy of Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and London Contemporary Dance School. In 2011, Mr. Whitereceived a B.F.A. in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University, where he performed works by Arthur Mitchell , George Balanchine, Pascal Rioult, Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, and Martha Graham. He has also performed in Rasta Thomas' Rock the Ballet, Missouri Ballet Theater, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Alvin Ailey II, Collage Dance Collective, and Bodytraffic. 

 

 

 

About the Kent Dance Ensemble:

Since its inception in 1990, the Kent Dance Ensemble, Kent State's pre-professional dance company, has been introducing modern dance to audiences of all ages throughout Northeast Ohio.Under artistic director Gregory King, the company provides a professional atmosphere and structure that prepares its student members to bridge the gap between a college dance experience and working with a professional dance company.
