Kent State Dance Students Study and Perform in Thailand

Kent, OH – For the second consecutive year, students from the School of Theatre and Dance are travelling to Thailand for East Meets West, a performance and educational exchange between Kent State University and Rajabhat Suansunandha University.

Organized by Dance Division coordinator Jeffrey Rockland, East Meets West is a 2-week experience for dance students to teach, learn, and perform American and Thai dance techniques. The program goes beyond classroom and studio training, challenging students to problem solve and think creatively and collaboratively. Students are directly involved in the planning and fundraising efforts from the beginning, learning how to create and organize opportunities within their chosen field of study.

Over the course of the exchange, students will take classes in modern and ballet technique as well as traditional Thai dance from Thai instructors and teach American dance technique to Thai students. The trip also includes several performances by Kent State and Thai students.
