Directed by School of Theatre and Dance director Eric van Baars, “Into the Woods” is an epic fairy tale that proves the road to happily ever after isn’t all that it seems. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, this enchanting modern classic brings together some of the most popular characters of the Brothers Grimm and sends them on a journey that will make them question their choices. When a baker and his wife venture into the woods to break the curse that leaves them childless, they meet other fairy tale characters with wishes of their own. When the quest is over and everyone’s wish is granted – a child for the baker and his wife, a prince for Cinderella, and Jack’s cow producing milk – happiness abounds. Or does it?
The production features music direction by Jonathan Swoboda, scenic design by Terry Martin, costume design by Britney Harrell, lighting design by Devin Powell, sound design by Cory Kosman and technical direction by Heather R. Sinclair. Emma Burns serves as production stage manager.
