Musical Theatre Student Crowned Miss South East Ohio
Matti Chrisman, a sophomore in the School of Theatre and Dance's Musical Theatre program, was crowned Miss South East Ohio on Feb. 21, 2015.
Chrisman competed in five phases of competition to secure her title including private interview, swimsuit, evening gown, on stage question and talent. For the talent portion of the competition, Chrisman performed "Show Off" from the musical The Drowsy Chaperone. Each contestant in the Miss South East Ohio competition is required to have a platform for which feel strongly and advocate. Chrisman's platform is The "K.E.Y." to Success: Promoting the importance of extra-curricular activities in children and teens. In describing her support for her platform Chrisman explained that "through extra-curricular activities, I found my true love for the stage and that has helped me choose the education and career path I'm working on." Since childhood, the importance of extra-curricular activities was instilled in Chrisman by her parents who stated "I've been staying busy my whole life."
Chrisman will compete in the Miss Ohio competition June 18-20, 2015 at the Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield, OH. The winner of the Miss Ohio competition, which includes approximately 25-30 contestants, will advance to the Miss America competition in September.
"I've been very blessed to have had this opportunity," Chrisman says. "If I can help one other person, through my platform to find their life's love or even just a fun hobby through extra-curricular activities, then all the hard work would pay off instantly."
The School of Theatre and Dance is very proud of Chrisman's accomplishment and wishes her luck during the Miss Ohio competition.
