School of Theatre and Dance Opens Season with Intimate Apparel

Kent, OH – The School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University opens its 2017-2018 season with Lynn Nottage's acclaimed play "Intimate Apparel." The production is directed by associate professor Fabio Polanco and runs Fri., Oct. 6 through Sun., Oct. 15 in Wright-Curtis Theatre, located in the Roe Green Center for the School of Theatre and Dance, Center for the Performing Arts, 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, OH 44242.

For tickets call 330-672-ARTS (2787), purchase online at or in person at the Performing Arts Box Office located in the Roe Green Center lobby of the Center for the Performing Arts at 1325 Theatre Drive. The box office is open Mon. – Fri., Noon to 5 pm.  Tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for Kent State University alumni, faculty and staff, $14 for seniors (60+) and non-Kent State students age 18 and under are $10.  Tickets for full-time, Kent campus undergraduates are free of charge.  Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $12 per person.  Flex pass subscriptions are also available. The box office accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, checks, and cash.

A poignant and powerful on life, love, race and social power, "Intimate Apparel" portrays the story of Esther, a black seamstress in 1905 New York, who creates exquisite lingerie for clients who range from wealthy white women to prostitues. With her talent and discretion in high demand, Esther's plans for a life beyond the boarding house where she lives have never seemed more within reach. But when society and circumstance challenge her dreams, Esther will have to sew a new path into the fabric of her life. 

The production and design team includes scenic design by Isabella Trevino, technical direction by Liam Roth, lighting design by Wyatt S. Hayes, costume design by Desiree Anderson, sound design by Courtney Jean, and props supervision by Patrick Ulrich. Courtney Brown serves as dialect coach and Danielle Holloway is the production stage manager.
