School of Theatre and Dance ushers in the 1920s with “Thoroughly Modern Millie”
Kent, OH – The School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University continues it 2015-2016 season with the Tony Award-winning musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” The production runs Fri., Feb. 26 through Sun., March 6 in E. Turner Stump Theatre, located in the Center for the Performing Arts, 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, OH 44242.

The box office is open Mon. – Fri., Noon to 5 pm. Tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for Kent State University alumni, faculty and staff, $14 for seniors (60+) and non-Kent State students age 18 and under are $10. Tickets for full-time, Kent campus undergraduates are free of charge. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $12 per person. Flex pass subscriptions are also available. The box office accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, checks, and cash.
Directed by professor and Porthouse Theatre producing artistic director Terri Kent, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” follows small-town girl Millie Dillmount as she arrives in 1922 New York City. Embracing the flapper lifestyle, Millie sets out to accomplish her goal of marrying for money. But in this “thoroughly modern” world, things don’t go according to plan.
1920s New York and the flapper movement come to life in this production with book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, new music by Jeanine Tesori and new lyrics by Dick Scanlan. The original story and screenplay for the Universal Pictures Film is by Richard Morris.
The production and design team includes music direction by assistant professor Jennifer Korecki, choreography by assistant professor MaryAnn Black, scenic design by Benjamin Needham, technical direction by associate professor Steve Pauna, lighting design by Tom West, costume design by April Rock, and sound design by Cory Kosman. Hannah Graham serves as production stage manager.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” premiered on Broadway in 2002 and won six Tony Awards including Best Musical. The musical is based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film of the same name starring Julie Andrews.
