An Update on Fall 2020 from School Director Eric van Baars
In a video message to students, School of Theatre and Dance Director Eric van Baars provides an update on the upcoming Fall semester and the status of the 2020-2021 Mainstage production season.
Safety, flexibility, and innovation will drive the School of Theatre and Dance's Fall 2020 semester when school resumes in August. The School of Theatre and Dance has worked diligently over the last several months to plan for a Fall semester that provides the most valuable learning environment for students while maintaining the highest level of safety.
Due to the interactive nature of studio-based performance study, the School of Theatre and Dance is offering a higher percentage of face-to-face and hybrid classes this Fall than the university's overall offerings. Course instructors will determine what percentage of each class will meet face-to-face and that information will be communicated with students via the syllabus, course announcements, and Blackboard.
The School of Theatre and Dance's previously announced 2020-2021 Mainstage season will be adjusted for the Fall and the School will lean in to new forms of theatre, dance, and entertainment. While productions will look different, they will be innovative and provide exciting opportunities for performers, designers, and technicians.
The annual fall dance concert, "Dance '20," will take place in a format that allows for social distancing. However, due to the ensemble nature of both "The Crucible" and "Missionaries," alternative projects will be undertaken in their place. At this time no decision has been made on what will replace "The Crucible" and "Missionaries," however discussions are currently underway and more information will announced later in the summer. The School has also determined that it will not welcome public audiences into its spaces this Fall and will instead explore alternate methods of bringing theatre and dance to the community.
Together, we will lean in to the unknown and showcase our passions in a new way.
We cannot wait to see you in August.
And, Go Flashes!
