Transfer Student Scholarships

Scholarship Details and Deadlines

Students transferring to Kent State can apply for all types of aid, including scholarships, grants, loans and work-study. Awards are determined by student eligibility and will take into consideration aid used at previous institutions. The Student Financial Aid Office at Kent State provides further information on these types of aid.

Transfer students may receive one of the following transfer awards.

Transfer Student Scholarships

Transfer2Kent Scholarship

For transfer students who are starting in Fall Semester 2017 or later. 

To be eligible, you must be ...

  • a domestic undergraduate student
  • apply for admission to Kent State by July 1st
  • admitted to the Kent Campus as a new transfer student
  • enrolled full time
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.50
  • up to 90 transfer credit hours

Amount

$1,000 - $2,500 per year, renewable for up to two years (four semesters)

Renewable Criteria

  • Renewable for up to two years (four semesters) or until graduation; whichever comes first.
  • Renewal criteria – must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours, each year, and earn a minimum cumulate GPA of 2.50.
  • Students must remain continuously enrolled full-time, at the Kent Campus, to remain eligible. Students are no longer eligible for the scholarship if they stop out and then return to Kent State at a later time.

Flash Transfer Northeast Ohio Scholarship

For transfer students who are starting in Fall Semester 2017 or later. 

To be eligible, you must be ...

  • a domestic or international undergraduate student
  • apply for admission to Kent State by July 1st
  • admitted to the Kent Campus as a new transfer student
  • have earned an Associates degree from:
    • Cuyahoga Community College
    • Lorain Community College
    • Lakeland Community College
    • Stark State College
    • or Eastern Gateway College

Amount

$2,500 per year ($1,250 per semester), renewable for one year (four semesters total)

Plus $200.00 Book Award ($100.00 per semester)

Renewable Criteria

  • Renewable for one year (total award 4 semesters) or until graduation; whichever comes first.
  • Renewal criteria – must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn a minimum 2.50 GPA each semester.
  • Students must remain continuously enrolled full-time, at the Kent Campus, to remain eligible. Students are no longer eligible for the scholarship if they stop out and then return to Kent State at a later time.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Three awards are available each fall, for incoming full-time transfer students.

To be eligible, you must be ...

  • a member of Phi Theta Kappa
  • have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • not yet earned a bachelor's degree
  • completed at least 30 semester hours to be considered

Amount

$1,000 non-renewable

Departmental Scholarships

Many departments have special scholarships for students in their majors.

Amounts, application procedures, deadlines and eligibility criteria vary; please check with your academic department for details.

Additional Notes:

  1. Students are only eligible for Transfer2Kent or Flash Transfer Northeast Ohio Scholarship. They cannot receive both scholarships.
  2. If a student’s tuition is covered by another resource (faculty/staff tuition fee waiver, full tuition scholarship, etc.) the transfer scholarships may be adjusted or cancelled.
  3. CCP students, who have earned an Associate’s degree, are not eligible for the Transfer scholarships. They will be reviewed for incoming, freshman merit scholarships.
  4. Students admitted under the dual admission agreement with Cuyahoga County Community College are eligible for the Flash Transfer Northeast Ohio Scholarship.
