Art exhibition: Irina Koukhanova
Koukhanova uses the mythological figures of folklore to comment on, and explore the spirit of upheaval, in today’s world. Drawing upon numerous sources such as the Brothers Grimm, Robert Browning, and Goethe, Koukhanova’s work uses archetypes like the Pied Piper and the Jester as a vehicle to reveal their similarities to the present moment.
Educated at the Moscow Institute of Art and Industrial Design, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and the University of Notre Dame, Koukhanova has exhibited nationally and internationally with numerous public art commissions, as well as being a recipient of numerous juried awards and residencies.
Koukhanova is an associate professor of art and serves as the head of the sculpture program at Cleveland State University.
Located in the Classroom Building, the Link Art Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 3-7 p.m.
