Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities announced

In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness month, a number of events will occur on the campus of Kent State University at Trumbull.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, Linda Baer, R.A., and legal advocate supervisor of Someplace Safe, Inc., will speak on domestic violence in the 21st century, prevention efforts, and the work of the agency in the community. Baer's presentation will take place in Room 173 of the Link Building, from 3-4 p.m.

A clothesline display will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 2-5:30 p.m. in the Classroom Building. Students will be able to design custom, domestic violence themed t-shirts, which will be displayed throughout the month, and across campus.

A student bake sale will happen on Wednesday, Oct. 22 & Thursday, Oct. 23 between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Lower Commons of the Classroom Building.

Additional month-long events include a Silent Witness display, which will be stationed in the Lower Commons and The Link, and a collection drive for Someplace Safe, with bins to be located outside the office of Dr. Mary Wilson (174, The Link), and the campus library. Needed items include:

  • New, unused bath towels
  • New, unused pillows
  • New, unused twin and full sheets
  • Bleach
  • Canned meats
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Coffee, creamer and sugar
  • Diapers (size 4 and larger)
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Gift cards (Giant Eagle, Walmart & gasoline)
  • Laundry soap
  • Over-the-counter medications (adult & children)
  • Paper towels
  • Snack foods (children)
  • Toilet paper
  • Trash bags
