Elizabeth Z. Bartz, founder, president, and CEO of State and Federal Communications, Inc. will serve as the guest speaker for Kent State University at Trumbull’s 2014 spring commencement ceremony which will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Avenue NW, Warren.
Bartz, a former Trumbull County resident, is a Howland High School graduate, and attended classes at Kent State Trumbull (1976-78) before receiving a bachelor’s degree in journalism (‘80) and a master’s degree in political science (‘82) from Kent State University. Bartz currently serves on Kent State’s National Alumni Association Board; the Community Advisory Council for the university’s National Public Radio affiliate, WKSU; and serves on the Journalism Professional Advisory Board.
She joined State and Federal Associates in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1983 to manage that company’s government compliance publications. Ten years later, Bartz purchased the compliance publications department from State and Federal Associates and moved its operations to Akron, Ohio.
Bartz is very active in various professional societies, and community and volunteer efforts, sharing her time, talent, and resources. Her government affairs leadership positions include the State Government Affairs Council Executive Committee (SGAC) – the premiere state government affairs association for corporate and trade association executives. She is also a Gold Foundation member of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL); associate member of the Council of State Governments (CSG); former president of Washington (DC) Area State Relations Group (WASRG); on the Board of Directors for the Public Affairs Council; and Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL)
Among the many awards Bartz has received include the 2007 Woman Philanthropist of the Year from the Summit County United Way, and the 2008 Leadership Award from the Washington (D.C.) Area State Relations Group. In 2010, State and Federal Communications received the Excellence in Business Award from the Greater Akron Chamber, and has received the Weatherhead 100 Northeast Ohio's Fastest Growing Companies award in 2010 and 2013.
