Spring semester is off to a great start!

Our spring semester is well underway, and I have a few months under my belt as the new Dean of Kent State University at Trumbull. Over the last six weeks, I have met with students, faculty, staff, and community members. I am enjoying hearing from many voices about our role in Trumbull County and the Mahoning Valley. I hope you will add your voice to the conversation!

To give you a little history, I have a 25 year career in higher education that has taken me from central Pennsylvania to Indiana to northwest and southwest Ohio. Coming to Kent State Trumbull is an exciting opportunity for me because I feel this campus is doing great work, indeed the most important work there is in higher education. We have the support of Kent State University and Kent State's regional campus system, which is one of the largest and strongest in the country. We embrace our role in the Mahoning Valley and will continue to explore ways to grow with it.

As you see below, we have great things happening on campus and around the community. We also have exciting news coming around the corner regarding our Police Academy. Stay tuned! With every decision we make, we consider how we can impact the community, use our resources wisely, affect the environment and community, and most importantly, add meaningful educational opportunities for our current and future students.

With that, please let us know how we can help. I would love to hear from you. I hope you all have a great spring, and I encourage you to visit campus when you have a chance. Play a round of disc golf or enjoy Lake Anne.

Before ending, I want to thank Daniel Palmer for his thoughtful leadership as interim dean during the past few years. He navigated the campus forward through many obstacles, and his work is deeply appreciated.

Stay safe and as always, go Flashes!

Bill Ayres, Ph.D.
Dean and Chief Administrative Officer
