Applied Communication

Welcome to Communication Studies at Kent State University at Tuscarawas!

Did you know that employers often hire and retain workers who can effectively communicate? The ability to use effective oral and written communication can not only enhance your chosen career, but these skills can also impact your relationships and civic engagement.

Armed with critical thinking skills, the ability to express and your organize ideas, the aptitude to reach various audiences and a required practicum /real-world experience (see application here), students majoring in communication studies have transferable skills for a variety of contexts. Taking courses in all areas of the College of Communication and Information, the applied communication concentration helps students gain skills and knowledge about visual communication design, journalism, organizational communication, information systems and public speaking. At Kent State Tuscarawas, you can complete the entire bachelor’s degree in Applied Communication by taking classes at both the Tuscarawas campus and on-line. Please take a look at the roadmap, internship and practicum guidelines (and the difference between the two), and potential careers related to Communication Studies. Contact us today to find out more!

If you work or volunteer at an organization willing to have a communication intern, please see the supervisor information sheet. Thanks for working with our students!
