The Famous American Women series is coming to Kent State University at Tuscarawas as Carol Starre-Kmiecik will perform a one-woman show as the historic Amelia Earhart on Thurs., Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.in the Founders Hall auditorium. The event is sponsored by the College Club of Tuscarawas and is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Earhart was a record-breaking American pilot and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. A champion for the advancement of women in aviation, Earhart disappeared somewhere over the Pacific in 1937 in an attempt to be the first woman to fly around the world, resulting in one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the twentieth century.
Starre-Kmiecik, who also wrote the scripts for the series, has been performing on stage for over 35 years and has appeared in over 60 plays, several films, television shows and commercials and has been a spokesperson at hundreds of trade shows, conventions and seminars throughout the country. She has portrayed historical characters for many organizations, including schools, libraries and literary groups.
Along with Earhart, Starre-Kmiecik portrays other famous women in history, including Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, Dolley Madison and Molly Brown.
Kent State Tuscarawas is located at 330 University Drive NE in New Philadelphia.
