Kent State Tuscarawas Professor Holds Book Signing

In 1968, the community rallied together to guarantee the reality of affordable and accessible higher education for area students. As a result of that aspiration, Kent State University at Tuscarawas celebrated 50 years on University Drive in September.

To capture the memories and history of the past half century, Kent State Tuscarawas Emeritus Professor Dan Fuller wrote “Kent State University at Tuscarawas—Celebrating 50 Years on University Dr.” The coffee table style book is complete with pictures and milestones of the campus through current day.

On Sat., Dec. 1, at 2 p.m., Mr. Fuller, who has been teaching at Kent State for 48 years, will be at the Dover Public Library, located at 525 N. Walnut St., for a book signing celebration. He will share a few words on the history of the campus and offer an opportunity for questions and answers.

The book features the original Founders Hall groundbreaking and growth of the campus led by deans Dr. Francis Hazzard, Harold Shade, Dr. Gregg Andrews and Dr. Brad Bielski. Highlights include student activities, athletics, art and theater, academics and construction of campus facilities.

“The 50th anniversary of Kent State Tuscarawas on University Drive is a huge milestone for the campus and the community,” said Brad Bielski, Dean and Chief Administrative Officer of Kent State Tuscarawas. “Since the opening of Founders Hall in 1968 with about 200 students, the campus has grown over the years with an enrollment today of nearly 2,200 students and the addition of the Science and Advanced Technology Center, the Performing Arts Center and the Tolloty Center. The campus has been extraordinarily successful and is an asset to the community.”

Bielski added that the community’s input and support of Kent State Tuscarawas’ past and future endeavors are invaluable assets.

To RSVP for the book signing celebration, call the Dover Public Library at 330.343.6123. The book will be available for purchase at the library for $40 during the book signing and it is also available at the university campus by calling 330.308.7445 or emailing cconra1@kent.edu.

Kent State Tuscarawas is located at 330 University Dr. in New Philadelphia.
