Program Information

Which smoking cessation program is offered? We are utilizing both the Mayo Clinic “Path to a Smoke-free Future”® and American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking® program. Both programs are comprehensive in nature and address not only the benefits of quitting smoking; but also offers many proven techniques to help you succeed in becoming and staying smoke-free.

How does the program work? Groups meet on a weekly basis for 6 weeks and take you through the quitting process step by step. This includes identifying your motivation for quitting and the triggers that make you want to smoke, setting a quit date, how to deal with stress, and planning for to prevent relapse.

Are all sessions conducted as a group? The group setting is beneficial because clients are able to identify with the experiences of others. We do however, offer sessions with one or two people as well if the group sessions do not fit into your schedule.

Where will the session be held? Sessions are being held at the DeWeese Health Center here on campus. If there is a group that wishes to participate as a department, arrangements can be made to accommodate the departmental needs.

How do I enroll? You may call or e-mail the Freedom From Smoking® facilitator. Contact: Sharon Briggs, University Health Services/Office of Health Promotion @ 330-672-8267 or via e-mail: skbriggs@kent.edu .

Is there a fee for the program? There is a minimal fee for the smoking cessation program. The fee for the program is $5 for students and $10 for faculty and staff. All participants will be given a folder that contains a workbook and various other resources to assist in the quitting process.
