Fashion Photography, a photography exhibit by Master of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design Candidate and Adjunct Professor Bryan Rinnert is on display in the Rockwell Hall Atrium, first and second floors. A public show will be held on September 20 from 5 – 7 p.m. The exhibit is a joint effort between Rinnert and several faculty and administrators in the School of Fashion Design and Merchandising at Kent State University.
Associate Professors Noél Palomo-Lovinski and Linda Öhrn-McDaniel designed the fashions. Director of the School of Fashion Design and Merchandising J.R. Campbell coordinated the collaboration and installation of the exhibit.
"The Fashion School is very pleased to use this opportunity to showcase Rinnert's fashion photography at the same time that we have completed renovation to our third floor in Rockwell Hall. His photography of our faculty members' work is striking, and brings great visibility to their work, our school and building, and his great talent in large-scale photography."
Models included Kent State students Brittany Bargerstock and Sarah Pohan, alumni Peni Acayo, Heather Campbell and Kristin Schwartz, and University of Akron student Samantha Ost. Cassie Dulworth and Erin Ferguson provided hair styling.
Rinnert earned Individual Investigation credit for producing the exhibit, directed by Associate Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design Jaime Kennedy. For his project, Rinnert researched the clothing styles that the professors created, which influenced his decisions on how to showcase the work. His investigation included research on fashion photography and the historical context of the fashion itself, as well as an ethical analysis of manipulation, both in camera and post process of fashion photography.
“For the photography itself, I was trying to concentrate on form and the design of the dresses instead of the main focus being about the model,” Rinnert said.
