In April, The School of Visual Communication Design senior Bachelor of Fine Arts’ (BFA) class will be putting on a final show for those who will be graduating in the spring and fall semesters. The show will include work by the 28 graduating students consisting of both personal work and class projects. These students have worked tirelessly over the past four years and it is their work and achievements that will be the highlight of this amazing show.
This is the first year that students will be holding their senior show in the recently remodeled Taylor Hall located in the second-floor gallery. It is a great opportunity to come and visit the new space and see what these Kent State seniors have to offer! For many, this is considered a rite of passage; they are leaving their immortal footprint here on Kent State University’s design program, and a taste for what is to come.
The Final_BFA/Show has been branded and designed by the graduating class themselves, having divided into a network of teams to collaborate on different areas pertaining to the exhibition.
The Design Team, is responsible for the theming, branding, and promotional designs. The Documentation Team keeps the records of class meetings and the major events leading up to the show. The Exhibition Team’s responsibilities include setting up the gallery space and determining the most functional way to design the gallery. Lastly, the Communications Team handles all their social media presence to keep people updated and connected on new and exciting happenings, and sneak peaks behind the scenes. This also provides an opportunity to interact with the students through their last journey at Kent State.
Here, differences will be celebrated, and variety is highlighted. It is the one day they may come together as a class and celebrate each other’s hard work. Each student here has a unique flavor to lend to the world of design and illustration, and although they all began down the same road, over the years they have branched into various fields and delved into different minors. Many are fantastic illustrators, while others have focused more on typography, or may even have a good balance of both. The exhibit will showcase each student’s individual talent that has been carefully molded over during their long journey.
The show’s opening reception will be held at Kent State University on Friday, April 6th, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. The show runs April 5–12, gallery hours are Tuesday–Friday 11–5pm. To view the student’s websites visit bfa.show.
