How do you become a student at Kent State University at East Liverpool or Kent State University at Salem? All it takes is an application to the campus. Once you have applied to Kent State University at East Liverpool or Salem, you will receive information about upcoming dates for the S.T.A.R. program.
All new Kent State University students are required to take the ALEKS placement test for mathematics. ALEKS is a powerful artificial intelligence-based (AI) assessment software product that zeroes in on the student's mathematical strengths and weaknesses, reports its findings and then, if necessary, provides a learning module to improve the student's knowledge and skill.
New students who do not have current ACT scores must take ACCUPLACER reading and writing. ACCUPLACER is a comprehensive, integrated system of sophisticated computer-adaptive placement assessments designed to ensure you get into the classes you need. New students who have current ACT scores will be placed in reading and writing courses according to ACT reading and English subscores. An advisor will evaluate the need for these assessments and make the appropriate accommodations, if you are a transfer student.
All students will have an academic advisor. After you have completed the needed assessment(s), you will sit down with an advisor to review your results and discuss academic requirements.
During your advising session you will be registered for classes, receive financial aid information, and receive your KSU FLASHcard (student ID card).
