This first holiday season as the dean of Kent State University College of Nursing, I want to extend my heartfelt season’s greetings to all. It is especially important this time of the year for us to pause, reflect and express our gratitude. I am grateful for the warm reception I have received at Kent State and the wonderful people I have met thus far. As a long-time Floridian, I look forward to enjoying the beauty and wonder of Ohio’s snowy weather this winter.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our faculty and staff as it is their incredible work and commitment to excellence that has continued to make the college successful. This year we recognized two faculty members who are serving as interdisciplinary co-Investigators for grants that received federal funding from the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Additionally, forty percent of our full-time tenured/tenure track faculty were recognized for local, regional, and national contributions with honors and awards this fiscal year. Our faculty are recognized widely across northeast Ohio for our teaching scholarship as expert clinicians who mentor our students in the classroom, at the bedside and in the community.

To our students, staff and alumni, your dedication and hard work inspire me daily. The nursing profession requires flexibility and the capacity to manage uncertainty, as we’ve seen through the ongoing pandemic. As I reflect on yet another year that continued to challenge you, I appreciate and applaud your resilience and optimism. It is those characteristics that strengthen and sustain us both personally and professionally. We will continue to prioritize student success, expand university initiatives and build the future in all that we do.

As we say goodbye to 2021, I wish each of you good health and even greater happiness in the New Year!
