Quick Tip: Set up your course grading scheme

POSTED: Sep. 29, 2022

Midterms are approaching!  Now is a good time to double-check that the grade information your students see in your Canvas course(s) is up to date, including the grading scheme.  The grading scheme is the setting that tells Canvas which percentages equate to which letter grades in the course.

If you want students to see letter grades in your Canvas gradebook, make sure to enable and configure the course grading scheme to match the information in your syllabus.  If you don’t want your students to see letter grades, you can disable the grading scheme option.

Note: The course grading scheme must be enabled and configured if you plan to use the Canvas Grade Push application to report your midterm and final grades in FlashLine.

  • Enable and select a course grading scheme
Follow these instructions to enable and select the desired grading scheme for each of your Canvas courses.

  • Add a new course grading scheme
If none of the pre-existing grading schemes match your syllabus, follow these instructions to create your own grading scheme.  Then go back to your course settings and select your custom grading scheme.
