Watch Out for the Roundabout

The first phase of the Summit Street: Building a Better Way Improvement Project is complete, with the opening of Ted Boyd Drive. The roadway alongside the Student Recreation and Wellness Center reopened last week, making the roundabout at Ted Boyd and Johnston drives fully operational.

The new roundabout incorporates pedestrian crossings and bike lanes. A video is available to explain how to navigate a roundabout, whether you are in a car, on a bike or walking. Watch the video.

Summit Street returned to regular, two-way traffic throughout the construction zone in November. The contractor will continue working on utilities and other items throughout the winter months.

The second phase of the Summit Street Improvement Project is scheduled to begin in March and will make improvements to the roadway between Fraternity Circle and Lincoln Street. The entire project is expected to be completed by late fall 2017.

Updates on the project, which is being managed by the city of Kent, are available at www.kent.edu/summitstreet. Questions should be directed to summitst@kent.edu or the city of Kent’s Division of Engineering at 330-678-8106.
