Michael Goodnough

Grad Appointee
I am a first year M.A. student. My research focuses on the cultural and New Left movements of the 1960s. I plan to apply Mikhail Bhaktin's theory of the carnivalesque to these movements. This will allow me to research how “unofficial” culture became “official” culture by examining the various ways in which these movements presented and perceived themselves culturally.

I am also doing an oral history side project that examines Saudi Arabian reactions to the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom(OIF). This project will explore the ways in which OIF altered civilian understandings of the United States.
