Department Receives NSF Grant to Improve 500 MHz NMR Spectrometer
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has received a $327,753 grant from the National Science Foundation (CHE-1048645) to improve its Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy facilities.

Ohio Employee Ownership Center Receives $500,000 Award
The Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) recently announced that the Ohio Employee Ownership Center (OEOC) based at Kent State University has been awarded $500,000 to be a partner in the department’s Early Warning Network. The purpose of the network is to avert layoffs and job loss in Ohio through timely intervention in at-risk companies.

Kent State Translator Receives Funds to Spotlight Spanish Works
Dr. Kelly Washbourne, associate professor of Spanish translation in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at Kent State University, looks to language as a challenge. His curiosity about other cultures and languages has earned him a $25,000 Translation Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Professor Peter Tandy Collaborates on Physics Breakthrough
Kent State physics professor Peter Tandy is part of a team of researchers that is challenging some established thinking in particle physics. Tandy collaborated with Stanley Brodsky a professor at Stanford University’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory; Robert Shrock, a professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at Stony Brook University; and Craig Roberts, a senior physicist at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois.
