Edmund Timothy Moore, MFA, is an Associate Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pan African Studies at Kent State University. He has 34 years of university experience in the teaching of courses in the African and African American historical experience, as well as the retention of artistic and cultural experiences throughout the Pan African diaspora.

He served as Art Director for the Pan African Department and Cultural Center from 1976 until 1998. He served as the Curator of the Center of Pan African Culture’s Uumbaji Gallery, at KSU from 1974-98. His painted murals have been on public display in the Department of Pan African Studies, and in the Department of Geography at Kent State.

With three degrees in Visual Communication Design, from his educational, artistic and cultural perspective, his research and creative interests converge in the field of Hierography, which, concerns a sacred connection between all of the communication processes, from the spoken word, to printed, artistic, or electronic words and images.

All of these constitute what he refers to as the Communication Continuum. His research is concerned with their impact on our individual and collective thoughts and behaviors in society.

His other research is within the concept of HumanityCentricity, which confirms the common cultural characteristics that we all share as human beings. He has also given numerous lectures, presentations, and workshops on the topics of African and African American Stereotypes in the Media, Issues relating to Diversity, and the importance of Education to various community and business organizations throughout the United States.

Among other awards and honors he has received for community service, as an educator , he received the KSU Honors College’s Distinguished Honors Faculty Award in 2006 and received his fifth Mortar Board recognition for outstanding teaching, in November, 2000.

He was selected to Who’s Who, Among American Teachers for 1996 and 1998 and he is the first African American in the history of Kent State, to receive the Alumni Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award, which he received in 1993. He was also the recipient of the College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Council Award for Distinguished Teaching in Spring of 1992.
